Research Highlights Importance of Medical Mistrust in Care Provider Usage Differences

A study led by Health Policy and Management Professor and Chair Thomas LaVeist shed light on the role that race differences and medical mistrust play in sources of health care chosen by whites and African Americans.  Published in the Journal of Urban Health, the study describes how LaVeist and his team used data from the Exploring Health Disparities in Integrated Communities (EHDIC) study to examine the role of medical mistrust in choosing the source of health care by 1408 black and white adults who were exposed to the same health care facilities and low-income racially integrated community.
