Hospitals can play a key role in improving community health, GW Milken Institute School of Public Health Researcher Maureen Byrnes told attendees at the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics Conference recently held at American University.
In her presentation, “Role of Hospitals in Improving Community Health: Community Benefit,” Byrnes pointed out that improving the health of communities is a central aim of public health, and improving community health is a central tenet of the Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148). She also spoke about drivers that are expanding and refining the community obligations of tax-exempt hospitals.
