Another Plea for Funding the Children’s Health Insurance Program

December 5, 2017

In a Commonwealth Fund blog, Sara Rosenbaum, the Harold and Jane Hirsh Professor of Health Law and Policy at the Milken Institute School of Public Health, explains why the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) offers a critical health insurance pathway for nearly 9 million children living in families with modest means.

Funding for the program has been in limbo since September 30.  The blog includes information about the latest status of the bills that the House of Representatives and the Senate have put forward to extend the program.

“Given the strong bipartisan support for CHIP and its totally predictable expiration, it is surprising — and unfortunate — that CHIP remains on the Congressional docket,” Rosenbaum writes.
